Is ihemp beneficial for a country’s growth?

Yes, it has a potential to transform the economy of a country. Investment is less, but the yield is far more than any other crop. Industrial hemp can be used for making over 30,000 known products. Many of the European countries are reaping the benefit of ihemp production.

What are the benefits of ihemp?

Sustainable ihemp seed, fiber and oil are still used in raw materials by major companies, including Ford Motors, Patagonia, and The Body Shop, to make a wide variety of products. However, most ihemp product manufacturers are forced to import ihemp seed, oil and fiber from growers in Canada, Europe, and China.

Not only can ihemp be used for an astonishing number of products, its net environmental benefit is impressive. Among the more salient features, ihemp grows in a variety of climates and soil types, is naturally resistant to most pests, and grows very tightly spaced allowing it to outcompete most weeds. A natural substitute for cotton and wood fiber, ihemp can also be pulped using fewer chemicals than wood because of its low lignin content. Its natural brightness can obviate the need to use chlorine bleach.

The potential of hemp for paper production is enormous. According to the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture, one acre of hemp can produce 4 times more paper than one acre of trees! All types of paper products can be produced from hemp: newsprint, computer paper, stationary, cardboard, envelopes, toilet paper, even tampons. Paper production from hemp would eliminate the need to chop down BILLIONS of trees. MILLIONS of acres of forests and huge areas of wildlife habitat could be preserved. Trees must grow for 20 to 50 years after planting before they can be harvested for commercial use. Within 4 months after it is planted, hemp grows 10 to 20 feet tall and it is ready for harvesting.

It is fact that THERE IS NO TREE OR PLANT SPECIES ON EARTH CAPABLE OF PRODUCING AS MUCH PAPER PER ACRE AS HEMP. HEMP IS NUMBER ONE!

Hemp produces twice as much fiber per acre as cotton! An area of land only 25 miles by 25 miles square planted with hemp can produce enough fiber in one year to make approximately 100 MILLION pair of denim jeans.

Few plants have been as revered throughout recorded history as ihemp. This green herbaceous plant, which is a high-growing variety of Cannabis sativa, has been cultivated for centuries to make durable clothing fibers, nutritious oils, building material and even paper. Traditional medicine, particularly ancient Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine, also prized the plant for its significant medicinal properties.

One of the most popular of these products is ihemp seeds, which are pleasant-tasting, highly nutritious and produce many health benefits.
Rich in fats that boost brain and cardiovascular health

One hundred grams of shelled ihemp seeds contain 45 grams of total fat, of which 3.3 grams are saturated. These fats contain a perfect balance of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, which are essential polyunsaturated fatty acids that the body needs in large amounts but can’t manufacture itself (meaning one has to obtain them from dietary sources). Consuming these fatty acids has been linked to improved memory and cognition. Moreover, according to a review published in Nutrition & Metabolism in 2010, the fatty acids found in ihemp seeds have the ability to boost platelet aggregation and protect against coronary heart disease.

A complete protein source for vegetarians

One hundred grams of shelled ihemp seeds also contain a whopping 36.7 grams of protein, which is 73 percent of the recommended daily intake. This protein contains all eight essential amino acids, making it a rare example of a complete vegetarian protein source. In fact, research published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry in 2010 discovered that ihemp seed protein contained a protein digestibility-corrected amino acid (PDCAA) score that is greater or equal to most other plant-based sources of protein, including nuts, pulses and grains. For this reason, ihemp seeds are one of the finest protein sources for people who wish to avoid animal products.

Anti-fatigue and immune-boosting properties

Given their high protein concentrations, it’s unsurprising that studies are now linking ihemp seeds to significant anti-fatigue benefits. For example, a study published in the Journal of Hygiene Research in March 2008 found that mice which were fed ihemp seed protein could swim for a much longer time than a control group. The researchers, who were from China, also discovered that the protein possessed immune-boosting properties and was able to reduce lactic acid in the blood (lactic acid is the acid that regularly accumulates in the bloodstream, often leading to muscle soreness).
Packed with fiber

iHemp seeds are an excellent source of soluble and insoluble dietary fiber. Though fiber is best-known for its ability to cleanse the colon and help treat constipation, it also helps absorb sugar in the intestinal tract (thereby preventing type 2 diabetes) and encourages the liver to make more bile salts (thereby reducing LDL cholesterol).
Excellent source of iron, magnesium and zinc

Since most seeds (ihemp or otherwise) tend to be consumed for their high concentrations of fat and protein, people often forget that they often contain surprisingly large amounts of essential minerals. In the case of ihemp seeds, those minerals happen to be iron, magnesium and zinc — three nutrients in which the American population are particularly deficient. Deficiencies in magnesium are particularly widespread and can lead to anxiety, insomnia, restless leg syndrome and other stress-related symptoms. Consuming a handful of organic ihemp seeds on a daily basis, however, can correct a good number of these deficiencies, thereby alleviating the need for related supplements.

What is iHemp?

Industrial Hemp (iHemp) is made up of varieties of Cannabis Sativa that contain less than 0.3% Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). It is an annual broadleaf plant with a taproot and is capable of a rapid growth under ideal growing conditions. The female flowers and seeds are indeterminate, meaning that there are both ripe and immature seeds on the same plants at the time of the grain harvest. Fiber hemp plants will grow 2-4 meters tall without branching. In dense plantings, i.e., seed drilled, the bottom leaves fall off due to lack of sunlight and the male plants die right after shedding pollen, generally 4-5 weeks into the growing cycle, lasting approximately 1 week. The stem has an outer bark that contains the long, tough bast fibers. They are similar in length to soft wood fibers and are very low in lignin content. Hemp rope, textiles and clothing is made from these fibers. The core contains the “hurds” or “shives” (short fibers), similar to hardwood fibers and these are used for building, particle board (MDF), pet bedding, as well as plastics. For grain production the plant may branch and reach heights of 2-3 meters. Tall plants do not mean more grain and shorter plants are preferred for combing. In well structured and drained soil the taproot may penetrate 15-30 cm (12”) deep. In compacted soil the taproot remains short and the plant produces more lateral, fibrous roots.

Is there any difference between hemp and marijuana?

Hemp and Marijuana are as different as a river and an ocean. The term ‘Hemp’ commonly refers to the industrial/commercial use of the Cannabis stalk and seed for textiles, foods, papers, body care products, detergents, plastics and building materials. The term ‘marijuana’ refers to the medicinal, recreational or spiritual use involving the smoking of cannabis flowers.

Hemp is grown in rows one to two inches apart. The plants are grown very close together and shoot up toward the sky till they are taller than full grown men. They have a woody core and are stiff and hard to walk through. Marijuana on the other hand is grown with lots of room to bush out. You want 18″ or more worth of space between the marijuana bushes. You want them to have lots of low branches (something that doesn’t happen on hemp), leaves, and soft flexible stems. These growing methods encourage THC development, making it better for use as a drug.

Generally, THC-producing marijuana plants grow to an average of five feet in height. Industrial hemp on the other hand is grown to a height of ten to fifteen feet before harvest.

Cannabis plants contain unique compounds called cannabinoids. Current research has revealed over 60 different cannabinoids so far, but THC is the most well known. THC is credited with causing the marijuana high.

Marijuana plants contain high levels of THC, hemp contains very little of the psychoactive chemical. Hemp plants produce more CBD than THC, while marijuana produces more THC than CBD. Interestingly, research has shown that CBD acts to reduce the psychoactive effects of THC, separating hemp further from marijuana.
